2018 Fall Favorites

It's been a great fall season, although it went by so fast! It actually feels like we flew through it even faster than last year... or is it just me? Maybe it's because it's been pretty warm until just this week and it never quite felt like fall.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself quite a bit! I went to Mickey's Halloween Party, I watched a bunch of movies, carved pumpkins with friends, made some delicious apple pie cookies, and shopped all the amazing decor in stores.

How about I share my absolute top favorites from this season? I'd love to know yours, too. Let me know in the comments below!

Favorite Store

Michael's
It's hard to beat Michael's stores when it comes to shelves shock-full of wonderful decor. Usually, my local Marshall's manages to do slightly better, but this year it couldn't surpass Michael's. I especially love their selection of farm house/farmer's market fall decorations!

Favorite Decor

Witch Hat from HomeGoods
To be honest, I've never seen something so cool and well-made in a HomeGoods before! It was super unique, heavy, and probably hand-painted judging by the great job they did. I saw one or two of them at the very start of the season and they were gone SO quick.

Favorite Mug

Hello Autumn mug from HomeGoods
I bought this mug pretty late in the season. I saw it in the checkout aisle, and even though I told myself I wouldn't get anymore fall mugs because my cupboards are full, I just couldn't resist it!

Favorite Candle

Pumpkin Cider Apple from Pier 1
I usually tend to prefer the sweet pumpkin lattes type of candles, but this year I really enjoyed this cinnamon scent with a subtle apple hint. It's almost all gone now!

Favorite Snack

Pumpkin Spice Madeleines from Trader Joe's
Oh my god. These were DELICIOUS. They were fresh and spongy and soft with a delicate balance of sweetness and spices. Most pumpkin spice flavored snacks tend to go the candle route rather than just natural-tasting spices, but not the Trader Joe's madeleines. THAT'S what I think pumpkin spice should taste like. By the way, the pumpkins on the picture are the Chocolate Mousse Pumpkins from Trader Joe's, and although they have no pumpkin or spice flavoring, they're also fantastic!

Favorite Book

First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen
I've talked about this book so much, I bet everyone thinks I'm getting paid for it. I swear I'm not! It's the first book I read this season and it was SO good. Light, heartwarming and perfect to get into the fall spirit.

Favorite Song

Somebody's Love by Passenger
This song didn't come out this year, but I heard it for the first time in a fall playlist this season. I love it. It's got the perfect autumn vibe and even the lyrics match:

Oh when the winds they blow
You're gonna need somebody to know you
You're gonna need somebody's love to fall into

Oh when the leaves they fall
You're gonna need somebody to call you
You're gonna need somebody's arms to crawl into

Favorite TV Movie

Truly, Madly, Sweetly from Hallmark
I've watched the five new movies from Hallmark's Fall Harvest, and this one was my favorite. The story is super cute and I love Nikki Deloach. It wasn't the movie with the best fall decor, but I'm a sucker for Hallmark movies with baking in them.

Favorite Hollywood Movie

The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix
Alright, so this isn't a Hollywood movie per se, but it's a big budget TV show so I'm going to count it in this category. People have been obsessed about The Haunting of Hill House since it came out, so I finally caved and gave it a try last week. Wow. People were right! The writing is superb, and so is the acting. The story is rich, emotional and intense. I was expecting just a normal horror movie dragged on for 10 episodes, but it's a lot more than that. It's about family, and trauma, and how to cope with loss, all interspersed with super creepy and scary moments, and a gripping mystery about what happened that night at Hill House. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you watch it!

Best Fox of the Season

Ceramic fox from Marshall's
In honor of our mascot here at Fox & Spice, I thought it would be funny to feature my favorite fox-related item for both fall and winter. This year, it was this bright orange little ball of fox from Marshall's. How cute is he?!

That's it for fall this year, folks! Next post will be all about welcoming the Christmas season and what you can expect from Fox & Spice in the coming months. In the meantime, make sure to squeeze out every once of fall you can!

Stay cozy, and have a great Halloween!
