New Winter & Christmas Movies 2018


If you've been itching to go to the movies or stream something new with lots of snow and chilly vibes, take a look a the list I've made. I've grouped up all the new November & December releases, both in theaters and on rental/streaming, that are either related to Christmas or winter in general. Just like last year, there's something for everyone, and a good amount of family-friendly movies!

Also, make sure to check last year's list of theater releases. Those movies will now be available for rental or streaming.
IN THEATERS
Title: Smallfoot
Release: Now (ending soon!)
Genre: Animated Movie
Synopsis: Migo is a friendly Yeti whose world gets turned upside down when he discovers something that he didn't know existed: a human. He soon faces banishment from his home when the rest of the villagers refuse to believe his tale. Migo then embarks on an epic journey to prove the existence of the human.

Title: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Release: Now
Genre: Fantasy
Synopsis: Young Clara needs a magical, one-of-a-kind key to unlock a box that contains a priceless gift. A golden thread leads her to the coveted key, but it soon disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. In that world, she meets a soldier named Phillip, a group of mice and the regents who preside over three realms. Clara and Phillip must now enter a fourth realm to retrieve the key and restore harmony to the unstable land.

Title: The Grinch
Release: Now
Genre: Animated Movie
Synopsis: The Grinch and his loyal dog, Max, live a solitary existence inside a cave on Mount Crumpet. His main source of aggravation comes during Christmastime when his neighbors in Whoville celebrate the holidays with a bang. When the Whos decide to make Christmas bigger and brighter, the disgruntled Grinch realizes there is one way to gain peace and quiet.

Title: The Girl in the Spider's Web
Release: Now
Genre: Thriller
Synopsis: Fired from the NSA, Frans Balder recruits hacker Lisbeth Salander to steal FireWall, a computer program that can access codes for nuclear weapons worldwide. Problems arise when Russian thugs take Lisbeth's laptop. Now, Lisbeth and an unlikely ally must race against time to recover the codes and avert disaster.

Release: Nov. 30
Genre: Horror/Comedy
Synopsis: A zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven at Christmas, forcing Anna and her friends to fight, slash and sing their way to survival, facing the undead in a desperate race to reach their loved ones.

Title: Elliot The Littlest Reindeer
Release: Dec. 1
Genre: Animated Movie
Synopsis: When Blitzen announces his retirement on December 21st, a miniature horse has 3 days to fulfil his lifelong dream of earning a spot on Santa's team at the North Pole try-outs.

Title: Ben is Back
Release: Dec. 7
Genre: Drama
Synopsis: Nineteen-year-old Ben Burns unexpectedly returns to his family's suburban home on Christmas Eve. Ben's mom, Holly, is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son's drug addiction. Over a turbulent 24 hours, new truths are revealed, and a mother's undying love gets put to the test as Holly does everything in her power to keep Ben clean.

Title: Once Upon a Deadpool
Release: Dec. 12 only
Genre: Action/Comedy
Synopsis: This is the original Deadpool 2 movie, but rated PG-13 instead of R. There will be new scenes related to Christmas, but the movie will only be in theaters for one day! Every ticket sold will be donated to a cancer foundation.

RENTALS/STREAMING
Title: Christmas with a View
Release: Nov. 1 (Netflix only)
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: This Christmas, Thunder Mountain Ski Resort is abuzz when celebrity chef Shane Roarke is named the new head chef. Clara Garrison isn't as excited and is instead focused on getting resettled after her failed attempt at opening a restaurant in the city. With their paths constantly crossing, will their shared passion for cooking bring them together or will secrets keep them apart?

Release: Nov. 2 (Netflix only)
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: In The Holiday Calendar, a photographer inherits an antique advent calendar—which predicts the future. “Will this magical calendar lead her to love this holiday season?” Netflix’s synopsis asks. Here’s betting the answer is yes.

Genre: Horror
Synopsis: Maria is an alienated high school student whose life gets turned upside down when she switches places with her sinister mirror image.

Release: Nov. 16 (Netflix only)
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: One week before Christmas, a duchess switches places with an ordinary woman from Chicago, who looks exactly like her, and they each fall in love with each other's beaus.

Release: Nov. 22 (Netflix only)
Genre: Family
Synopsis: Siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce hatch a scheme to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes awry, the kids join forces with a somewhat jolly Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before it's too late.

Release: Nov. 30 (Netflix only)
Genre: Romance

Release: Dec. 18
Genre: Drama
Synopsis: A modern retelling of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel, we follow the lives of four sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March - detailing their passage from childhood to womanhood.
